Coaches – Hurdles, high jump

What was your favourite sport as a kid? - Athletics (high jump), netball, swimming, cross country and tennis.

What is your highest sporting achievement? - QLD high jump and multi-event champion. National medal winner.

What do you do to calm your butterflies while you compete? - Deep breaths and tunnel vision. Remember what you have to do to execute the perfect jump or race. Focus on the process (the skill) not the periphery (crowd and other competitors).

What do you love about coaching young athletes? - The excitement they get at mastering a new skill, particularly learning the flop. And their enthusiasm to get out there and jump, run, throw, hurdle. It’s infectious. I also love the “one more jump” requests even when we’re already over time! Hard to resist.

What is your favourite ice cream flavour? - Anything chocolate!

What is your dream holiday destination? - Near the beach.

What is your one piece of advice for a young athlete? - It’s a journey and you build layers on your training and performance that develop each year. It’s also about doing your best, not being the best. Keep at it!
